Fossil Mud, Blue Lapis & Pink Opal Earrings
These earrings are cut from a black pyrite rich mudstone I collected in Tecopa, CA, a blue lapis from Afghanistan and a pink opal from Australia. Pink opal is cool, it’s not like precious opals that form in explosive caldera ash but rather it is a fossil chert of ancient radiolarians buried in seafloor sediments that were pushed up onto the Australian continent.
The stones are 32mm wide and hang 58mm on hammered 14k gold fill wire. The earrings weigh 12 grams (6g each).
